Linear lupus panniculitis of scalp: a case report from north-east India

<p class="abstract">Lupus panniculitis of scalp is an uncommon manifestation lupus erythematosus, which presents as non-scarring linear, arched, or annular alopecia along the lines Blaschko. A 7 year old child presented with localised linear on scalp. Examination revealed a single alopecic patch left parietal There were no associated systemic complaints. Skin biopsy showed atrophic lining epithelium, diffuse and nodular lymphocytic plasma cells infiltrates in superficial deep dermis, lobular inflammatory infiltration lymphocytes, histiocytes cells, minimal involvement septa subcutaneous tissue. Antinuclear Antibody (ANA) anti-ds DNA tests negative. Patient responded well regrowth terminal hair within 3 weeks to combination treatment hydroxychloroquine, topical intralesional steroids, calcineurin inhibitor. Linear should be considered cases patterned, alopecia. Regular follow-up also essential due possibility recurrence development erythematosus.</p>

Alopecia in a linear pattern is very rare with only a few cases reported in the medical literature. We report a case of linear non scarring alopecia involving the scalp in a 17-year-old boy with a histological diagnosis of lupus panniculitis. We report this case because of its rarity and also the inclusion of this entity as one of the rare differential of non scarring alopecia.
